The City of La Porte City is seeking applicants to fill two expired terms on the La Porte City Economic Development Commission. The term will begin upon appointment and expire June 30, 2013. Applicants must reside or be employed within the City limits. Duties include promoting development within the City and advertising information relating to the economic advantages of the City. This group meets on the 2nd Monday of the month at 5:30pm at City Hall.

City Seeking Applicants for Hawkins Memorial Library Board of Trustees
The City of La Porte City is seeking an applicant to fill an expired term on the Hawkins Memorial Library Board of Trustees. Applicants may reside inside the City limits of La Porte City, or in rural Black Hawk County. The term will begin on July 2, 2013, and run for six years. The Library Board of Trustees directs and controls all affairs of the Library including holding regular meetings, hiring of staff, purchases and record keeping. This Board meets regularly on the 2nd Monday of the month at 4:30pm at Hawkins Memorial Library located at 308 Main Street.

City Seeking Applicants for Historic Preservation Commission
The City of La Porte City is seeking an applicants to fill two expired terms on the La Porte City Historic Preservation Commission. The Historic Preservation Commission is a board designed to safeguard the City’s historic, aesthetic and cultural heritage by preserving sites and districts of historic and cultural significance. This group consists of five members with a majority of those members residing inside the City limits. Members are appointed by the Mayor with Council consent for three year terms. Members shall demonstrate a positive interest in historic preservation, possess interest or expertise in architecture, archaeology history or other closely related disciplines. The Commission identifies and designates local historic districts and sites and makes recommendations to the State Bureau of Historic preservation for the listing of such places. This group meets as needed a minimum of three times a year. The terms will begin immediately, and expire February 22,2016

City Seeking Applicants for Board of Adjustment
The City of La Porte City is seeking an applicants to fill an expired terms on the La Porte City Board of Adjustment. This board consists of five residents appointed by the Council for a five year term. A majority of the members of the Board shall be persons representing the public at large. The duty of this Board is to hear and decide appeals made by residents in regard to adopted development ordinances. Appeals by the public can be made for variances, use exceptions and interpretation of the Code. Meetings and public hearings are scheduled as appeals are made for the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month at 7:00pm at City Hall. The term will begin on July 18, 2013, and run for five years.
